How to Host a Stress Free Birthday Brunch

Ted turned 2 recently and we had a bit of a party. Since having kids, the thought of parties instantly makes my blood pressure go up. So many people! So much food! And drinks! And noise! Argh!!! Anyway, I thought it was time to put my endless list making to good use and organise a stress free birthday party. How do you do that you say? Well, the key was to make sure everything was made ahead!   << Continue Reading >>

Lemon Cheesecake

Lemon Cheesecake

I love cheesecake and even the hubby, who doesn't eat cheese, loves cheescake! I've never been brave enough to try making a baked cheesecake so I stick to chilled cheesecakes. This one is pretty classic and I love the jelly layer on top. You can leave it off if you can't find lemon jelly, though I also think it would be nice with passionfruit jelly. I used an adjustable cake ring for my   << Continue Reading >>

Last Minute Sweet Treat for Valentine’s Day

I must admit, we don't go to much trouble for Valentine's Day. It's so commercialised here in Australia that I'm a bit put off the whole idea of 'we are telling you to be romantic today so go and buy some flowers or chocolates!' BUT...I do love any excuse to have something sweet and this little treat can be whipped up in a minute! It is perfect with berries, but also yum with pineapple,   << Continue Reading >>

Gluten Free – Savoury Flapjacks

These are a great kid snack to have on standby. They require just a few ingredients and can be made in a big batch and stored in the freezer. They aren't too messy to eat so are great for trips out with toddlers and are also good for after school snacks. You can use any veggies you have on hand and your favourite kind of cheese. Flapjacks are also perfect if you're looking for gluten free   << Continue Reading >>

Almond, Rose and Cardamom Cordial

If you know anyone in the Southern States of Australia, then you'll know it's been crazy hot here! We've had temperatures over 40°C (105°F) every day this week!! But rather than complain about how hot it is, I thought I'd make up some fancy cordial to enjoy. The drink is a lovely milky white colour and is nice and refreshing. This syrup is delicious topped with sparkling or still water. For an   << Continue Reading >>

Edible Gifts for Men: Fruit Cake

Adding to my Edible Gift Ideas for Men round up, here is my Fruit Cake recipe. I don't think you can go wrong with Fruit Cake as a gift. I love it, hubby loves it and both our Fathers love it! I gave one to my Dad for Father's Day. My cousin Ross, swears that the best accompaniment is a piece of cheddar cheese...I've tried it out and it's a pretty good combo! This recipe is based on one from   << Continue Reading >>

Lamb and Apricot Tagine

I've made this a few times lately and I'm totally in love with it. This tagine is one of those lovely 'slow dishes' that's perfect for a chilly night. It bubbles away in the kitchen all afternoon so that when it gets to dinner time, all that needs to be done is to make the couscous, which is about one of the easiest things to do in the kitchen. I've adapted this from the recipe for Beef Tagine in   << Continue Reading >>

Orange Power Vinegar Cleaner

Today I'm joining in the fun on the Spring Has Sprung blog tour, which is being hosted by the lovely Cass from Cass Can Sew and Jane from Lil Pip. With the smell of Spring starting to linger in the air, it's a great time to get inspired with some Spring themed projects. You can find the blog schedule at the bottom of this post. There will be giveaways and Linky parties, so be sure to take a   << Continue Reading >>

Jelly Playdough made with British Solid Jelly

Whenever my relatives make the trip from the UK here to Australia for a visit, they always bring us some UK Jelly. Unlike Australian Jelly and American Jello which comes in crystals/powder, the jelly from the UK comes in a solid block (called a tablet) in the packet. What's so good about it is that you can eat it straight from the pack! Cut into little cubes it's a super sweet but yummy   << Continue Reading >>

BBQ Corn Salad

Hubby had this salad at a restaurant recently and was looking for an excuse to recreate it. We went to a family lunch today and this was his contribution. It looks like a crazy combination, but it really works. The salad is sweet and smoky, with lots of crunch! I was having a sleep in with Ted this morning, while hubby was experimenting away in the kitchen. He stuck his head in and asked 'Do you   << Continue Reading >>
