Meal Planning Ideas: Dinner Lucky Dip

March 6, 2014 by Abby 10 Comments

Picking what's for dinner would have to be one of my least favourite jobs! Hubby and I can waste a whole hour just deciding what our meals are for the week. It's not meant to be so difficult! One of us came up with the idea of these meal sticks, or dinner lucky dip as we like to call it. The idea is pretty simple. All of the things we like to cook for dinner are written on ...

Keep your Blogging Time Efficient

October 3, 2013 by Abby 1 Comment

In Part One of this series, I covered using a spreadsheet for organisation. In Part 2, I covered using a calendar. They are the main tools I use to plan and structure my blogging, but there are a lot of ways you can get the best value from the time you put into blogging. KEEP YOUR BLOGGING TIME EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT Write Posts When You're in the Mood I used to start a ...

Keep your Blogging Organised with a Calendar

September 20, 2013 by Abby 12 Comments

In Part One of this series, I told you all the ins and outs of using a spreadsheet to help keep you organised. Originally, this was all going in one post, but it grew and grew and hubby said I should I decided to break it up into a mini series. By using a calendar to keep my posts organised, I easily split the one post up into a few and planned when to post them. Here's how I ...

Keep your Blogging Organised with a Spreadsheet

September 13, 2013 by Abby 5 Comments

I really enjoy blogging. It's a great way to share ideas and connect with like minded people. But blogging can be hard work. If I don't keep my blogging organised, or "organized" for my American friends, I can get a bit overwhelmed by it all and lose my blogging mojo. I'm going to share my blog organisation tips with you. Because we all know if we're organised, we don't waste ...

Getting Shoe Polish Out of Carpet

May 29, 2012 by Abby 1 Comment

I took my boots to the cobbler the other day (anyone else think of Karl Pilkington when they hear 'cobbler'?) to get the soles re-done. I picked them up looking shiny and new and took them home. I put them on this morning when I got up and 5 minutes later noticed a few horse shoe shaped marks all over the carpet. Not impressed! It's nice when the guy polishes your shoes after ...

The Low-down on Hand-Me-Downs

March 9, 2012 by Abby 10 Comments

There is a lot of stigma around hand-me-downs, and I know a lot of people that curl their top lip up at the idea of them, but I'm not sure why. Especially, when it comes to kids clothes.  Babies and children grow so quickly that things usually only fit for one season, so it seems a waste to see all your hard earned cash being spent on clothes that may only get worn a few ...

DIY Sugar Scrub: Great for mechanics

January 7, 2012 by Abby 28 Comments

My brother is a mechanic and all-round handy guy, so often has grubby hands. I made up a pot of this to give to him for Christmas. It's lovely and moisturising for hard working, dry hands. It's great to use after a day gardening, cleaning or even packing (I always find my hands get really dirty and dried out packing boxes). The sugar scrubs off all the muck, and the honey and ...

Cutlery Storage Roll – Tutorial

November 22, 2011 by Abby 18 Comments

Do you have one of those 'good' cutlery sets? You know the ones, they get pulled out for Christmas and then for the rest of the year, take up a huge amount of space in an awkwardly large box.Well, I decided to store them in a roll, like chefs knives. They take up a lot less space and still stay nice and shiny. You can see below, that they use about 1/4 of the space of the box. ...

Cleaning my Stove Burners – no scrubbing required!

October 29, 2011 by Abby 3 Comments

I'm almost embarrassed to post this. My stove burners get pretty dirty. I guess I think life is too short to be scrubbing the grease off the stove burners, but now that I know this trick, I don't need to. All you need is a little bit of Ammonia and a zip-loc bag. Get a zip-loc bag and put your dirty stove burners in there. I did two at a time so that I could still use the ...

Get Organised – Laundry Storage and Dusting mittens

October 24, 2011 by Abby 1 Comment

Being renters, we can't put any shelves up and the laundry at out house is a bit lacking in storage. I came across these little baskets at the local discount store and they are perfect! They have 2 suction cups on the back, so they stick to the tiles, and I can take them with me when we move out. The one on the left has my delicates bags in it and the one on the right is ...

Prettier than your average Whiteboard

September 6, 2011 by Abby 4 Comments

Hi my name is Abby and I'm a listoholic. I love making a list. On a post it, on the computer, in my phone, in my head, on the backs of old envelopes... and don't get me started on Excel spreadsheets. It makes me feel like I'm sorting things out, even before I get started on actually doing anything on the list.I've been wanting a whiteboard for ages, but they're a bit ...

Quick and satisfying project today making a brush Quick and satisfying project today making a brush roll for my art supplies. Vintage canvas from the stash (which I think is from a bougie Italian designer). Matching bag to come. Then I can grab and go for my next en plein air session.
I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate eac I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate each season and observe the cyclical nature of growth and of life. Through tending a garden we learn to embrace imperfection and patience. That the reason for everything is the journey not the destination.
My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Part My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Party was the Lucca Dress from @schultzapparel. I adore the 18th Century vibe! After toiling my measured size, I ended up going down 2 sizes and after a few minor tweaks I make to most patterns (shorten and move forward the shoulder and realign the side seams) it was good to go. I was planning to finish the front with eyelets but ended up hand sewing in hook and eye tape. I love the clean look! When trying it on I wanted a little more oomph in the hips so I added some tulle hip pads to the sides. I added in seam pockets too because...pockets! The fabric is from deep stash and originally purchased at the Philips Shirt Factory sale in the city maybe 10 years ago?! It was a dream to sew with! I used about 5m because it was only 90cm wide. I'm loving the result and hopefully the weather plays nice and I get another chance to wear it before it turns cold. The dipped waist makes it really comfortable to wear with room for a big lunch! #schlucca #sewmelbourne #sewmelbournegp #imakemyownclothes
My grandma always grew borage and would put it in My grandma always grew borage and would put it in salads. I didn't know anyone else who made salad with flowers in it (it was the 80s) and I thought she was a magical witch. I'm so excited to finally grow it in my own garden! When buying veggie seeds I found borage on @theseedcollection so couldn't help myself. Witches unite! ✨🌱
Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to front garden a bit easier. Used scraps of timber from the old retaining wall. He wasn't a fan of the circular saw but loved doing the drilling and screwing. Worked out just as I hoped! I don't have a builders square, but turns out a quilting ruler makes an excellent substitute.
