Handmade Winter: Hazelnut Spiral Cookies

January 23, 2014 by Abby 6 Comments

Hazelnut Spiral Cookies

Since the Handmade Winter eBook came out, I have’t been able to get the thought of spiral cookies out of my head! I fondly remember my Mum making them when we were kids and I really wanted to give them a go. As much as I would love some pink and covered in 100s & 1000s cookies, I thought I would make a more grown up version.

I modified the recipe a bit and made it into Hazelnut Spiral cookies. I took out any other flavouring from the recipe and added 1tsp hazelnut extract. Once the dough was made, I took out half and mixed in 1/3 cup hazelnut spread (Nutella). Finally, I rolled the dough log in some chopped hazelnuts.

Cookies never last long in our house and these ones are no exception! Even Roman has been digging into them and was rewarded with two for finishing his dinner.

If you would like to see what other projects have been tested out, take a look at this Flipbook.

To learn more, take a look through or buy a copy of the eBook, go to the Handmade Winter site here.

It was such a new and fun experience to work with so many talented ladies to produce the eBook. I really surprised myself with what I could do and am so impressed with how beautifully it all came together. Well done #creativemamas!

Looks great! I’m doing some research myself on building my own preservation box…it seems there’s so much of some information, and so little of other information that I just can’t find everything I’m looking for! haha

Your dress looks great though! I’d love to hear about your adventure with cleaning it!

I actually cleaned my dress in the bathtub. I used a sard wonder stick on any marks and all around the bottom and then left it for a few days. Then I washed it in tepid water in the bath, gently rubbing any marks. I think 95% of them came out which I was more than happy with. I gently squeezed out as much water as I could, then hung it up to let it dry.

I love small ruffles on some things, however most ruffles at a little an
excessive amount of on behalf of me, and that i like single-edged ruffles over
ambiguous, thus i might most likely leave these off too.Wedding Gowns

Quick and satisfying project today making a brush Quick and satisfying project today making a brush roll for my art supplies. Vintage canvas from the stash (which I think is from a bougie Italian designer). Matching bag to come. Then I can grab and go for my next en plein air session.

Through tending a garden we learn to embrace imperfection and patience. That the reason for everything is the journey not the destination.
My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Part My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Party was the Lucca Dress from @schultzapparel. I adore the 18th Century vibe! After toiling my measured size, I ended up going down 2 sizes and after a few minor tweaks I make to most patterns (shorten and move forward the shoulder and realign the side seams) it was good to go. I was planning to finish the front with eyelets but ended up hand sewing in hook and eye tape. I love the clean look! When trying it on I wanted a little more oomph in the hips so I added some tulle hip pads to the sides. I added in seam pockets too because...pockets! The fabric is from deep stash and originally purchased at the Philips Shirt Factory sale in the city maybe 10 years ago?! It was a dream to sew with! I used about 5m because it was only 90cm wide. I'm loving the result and hopefully the weather plays nice and I get another chance to wear it before it turns cold. The dipped waist makes it really comfortable to wear with room for a big lunch! #schlucca #sewmelbourne #sewmelbournegp #imakemyownclothes
My grandma always grew borage and would put it in My grandma always grew borage and would put it in salads. I didn't know anyone else who made salad with flowers in it (it was the 80s) and I thought she was a magical witch. I'm so excited to finally grow it in my own garden! When buying veggie seeds I found borage on @theseedcollection so couldn't help myself. Witches unite! ✨🌱
Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to front garden a bit easier. Used scraps of timber from the old retaining wall. He wasn't a fan of the circular saw but loved doing the drilling and screwing. Worked out just as I hoped! I don't have a builders square, but turns out a quilting ruler makes an excellent substitute.
