Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? I’m not usually all that organised when it comes to holiday shopping, but I’m trying to get it all sorted early this year. I’ve bought a heap of books so I’m off to a good start. I hate going to the shops, especially this time of year. They are always so busy and everything takes soooo much longer than it should. Thank god for online shopping! I don’t know what I did before it was invented?! Oh yeah, that’s right…I didn’t have kids so I could spend an afternoon shopping. Now I shop at 10pm in my pyjamas.
I think books are great gifts! There is a book to suit every person and if you don’t know what that book is, there are always gift vouchers. I love flicking through cook books and sewing books. Here’s a neat way to wrap them with a piece of fabric or a tea towel (dish cloth). When I get a chance to sit down and read, I usually read crime novels and biographies. Michael Connelly is my favourite author. I own almost all of his books and I’m looking forward to reading The Burning Room. It’s the latest in his Harry Bosch series and they never fail to keep me up reading half the night.
I also love an excuse to add to the boys’ library. I adore childrens books, especially the illustrations. Every book has a different style. I’ve recently discovered Herve Tullet and can’t wait to read some of his books with Roman. They engage kids in a way I’ve never seen before…so clever! What’s your go-to Christmas gift?

I’ve never heard of Tullet, you made me curious so I just requested some of his books at the library.
I also love books, though I hardly have any time left for reading these days, and as my oldest enjoys them as well, we asked his birthday party guests to bring books. Our present to him was a reading nook under the staircase where he could go through his books and magazines on his own.

His books are just so different to most other children’s books. Ooh a reading nook sounds wonderful! What a lucky boy!

My kids love the book of Tullet! We have this book in Dutch. Here it’s called ‘een boek’ (a book). 🙂 The interaction of the kids with the book is great.

You were right Abby. His books are different. We got “10 times 10” from the library and my son can’t get enough of it.

Hmmm…. So after reading your post the other day Abby, I’ve gone and purchased (lots) of Herve Tullet books…. i have lots of nieces and nephews all under 5! My eldest kids are 5 and 4, and I know they are going to love the shadow books. I also then ended up buying a shadow, light or glow in the dark book for my eldests friends for christmas as it’s their last year at daycare together (the group of boys are known as the 3 amigos!)
Tally of $$ spent on Herve Tullet….. over $200. eeekkk!!!

ooh, I’m jealous! That’s exciting!! They are such wonderful books. The shadow one looks like a lot of fun. I also love the sculpture one. Roman has 2 friends at kinder and they call themselves ‘the boys’. You’ll have to tell me your favourites once you get them.
