Mega Bibs for a Baby Shower

July 1, 2015 by Abby 10 Comments

Baby news is always exciting, so when Renee and Alisa told me they were organising a blogging baby shower for Jenya, I was straight in. I’m a practical person at heart which means I like to give practical gifts. Something that will be used over and over again. The Mega Bib was one of those baby items for me. They provide great coverage and the snap up crumb catcher is perfect for catching dropped bits of food. The bibs roll up easily too so they are great for on the go.

Given Jenya’s Russian background, I begrudgingly cut into this Onion Dome fabric from the Little Kukla collection from Robert Kaufman I have been stashing for a couple of years. I am sure Jenya will love it as much as I do and it looks wonderful on the bib. For the other bib, I used some Cloud 9 Organic Scribbles in orange. Keeping with the bright unisex theme, both bibs are backed with lime green polar fleece.

Best of luck Jenya for the weeks and months to come! Enjoy those newborn baby snuggles. Take a look at what everyone else on the baby shower tour is making here:

Thank you Abby! Being a practical kind of gal I do appreciate these gorgeous colourful bibs! the size is perfect! I was not sewing when R was a baby and was constantly frustrated by how small the bibs in the shops were! I feel lucky you decided to use these fabrics for a pressie for our bubba, thank you! Thank you very much 🙂

The crumb catcher is a great addition, Abby and will ensure the bibs are used over a long time. Gorgeous fabric!!!

Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melb Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melbourne garden party was the Charlie Caftan by @closetcorepatterns. I shortened it at the shoulders by an inch and think I shortened it at the bottom too. I altered the pockets so they attach into the waist panel, because I hate when in-seam pockets flap about and pull at the side seams. The side slits are a double turn narrow hem as the overlock and turn as suggested in the pattern looked puckered. The fabric is a Cotton + Steel rayon by Masaru Suzuki, which is a dream to sew with. I've made another dress in the red colour way.

Give them a minute to cool if you can lest you burn your mouth.

A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've added a hair hole, since why don't all hats have that?! Also added some garden wire to the brim. Instead of finishing the brim edge with bias, I did the usual RST stitch, fold and top stitch. That means the brim is a little shorter than the pattern. I wanted to keep the hat lightweight, so it's unlined and has only the two layers of canvas fabric for the brim. The cotton canvas is a vintage fabric from my stash, which originally cost 15 shillings and 9 pence (I think) per yard.
