Recovering Lamp Shades – Tutorial

August 9, 2012 by Abby 5 Comments

Recovering lamp shades is actually very easy. Okay, I know I start a lot of posts like that and there are probably things that I think are easy that you might not, but really, this one is easy! Armed with some craft glue and pegs (and fabric of course) you can recover your lamp shades in under an hour. I bought these lamps for $7 each at Target. I like the bases, but the ...

Pizza Toast

August 6, 2012 by Abby 1 Comment

So it's not the prettiest thing to eat, but Roman doesn't mind and neither do I. I eat this more often than I should, but it's easy, yum and not too naughty! This recipe is from The Baby-led Weaning Cookbook, which I refer to often for inspiration. If you can butter toast, then you can make this, just keep an eye on the cheese in the grill!Pizza Toastmakes 2 slices2 pieces ...

New Cushion Covers for the World Traveller

August 3, 2012 by Abby 4 Comments

Before the age of 6 months, Roman had been on 3 long haul flights. He was born in the UK, then we moved back to Australia and we also took a trip to the US. Talk about gluttons for punishment! The cushions on the reading chair in Roman's room were due for an update and I wanted to incorporate a bit of an international theme. At the start of the year, I saw that Spotlight ...

Candied Lemon Zest

July 31, 2012 by Abby 4 Comments

Candied lemon zest is so pretty! It is so easy to make and keeps indefinitely, so I think everyone should have a jar hiding in the fridge. Any lemony treat you make will instantly look a lot fancier once you put a bit of this candied zest on top! It's also yum straight from the jar!I topped my Lemon Poppyseed Cupcakes with candied zest.Candied Lemon Zestmakes about 1 cup5 ...

Build-a-Bag: My swatches arrived!

July 28, 2012 by Abby 6 Comments

Well it seemed like forever, but checking the mail box twice a day finally paid off when my swatches arrived this week! It is unbelievably exciting opening that package! I'm very happy with how they turned out. They look very close to how they looked on the computer screen. I found the yellow on the petals looked a bit lighter than I wanted, so I've darkened and brightened ...

Boy’s Own Style Month at Cook Clean Craft

July 25, 2012 by Abby 3 Comments

Narelle of Cook Clean Craft is hosting 'Boy's Own Style Month' at the moment. For the whole month of July she is featuring posts showing you how to personalise clothes, particularly for boys. Boys clothes can be tricky, you can't simply put a frill on there to pretty them up, so you have to be creative to put a bit of style into it. I am super excited to be guest ...

Adding a Neck Opening to a Tee – Tutorial

July 22, 2012 by Abby 33 Comments

Roman's head is off the charts big! This is not a figure of speech...it is literally off the charts. See, here's a chart!! I thought that as he got a bit older it wouldn't be such a problem, but he still grows out of his tops because the neck gets too tight to pull over his head. In this tutorial, I'll show you how to add an opening to the back of a tee. The technical ...

Melt and Mix Lemon Poppyseed Cupcakes

July 19, 2012 by Abby 1 Comment

I love melt and mix cakes! I often get the sudden urge to bake and my butter is always in the fridge, so melt and mix recipes usually come to the rescue. I have one baking cookbook that I've made up an additional index for that lists all the recipes that don't need softened butter. It comes in very handy! This recipe has been adapted a fair bit from a recipe on taste.com.au. I ...

Build-a-Bag: The Pattern

July 16, 2012 by Abby 4 Comments

So while I'm waiting for my fabric swatches to arrive in the mail, I thought I'd tell you about the pattern I've chosen for my bag. At first I thought about making my own pattern for the handbag. I like my current bag, so with a few mods I could make up a pretty good pattern. But I quickly realised that I would have to make at least 1 prototype, probably more and that it ...

Printing Fabric Labels Follow Up

July 13, 2012 by Abby 8 Comments

It's been about 6 months since I had my fabric labels printed with Spoonflower, so I thought I'd do a follow up to show you how they look today. You can see my original post here, but basically I made up a logo and had it printed onto some quilting cotton*. The tricky thing I did was print them on the bias (at 45°), the idea being that I wont need to press the edges under ...

I Spy Bag Toy

July 10, 2012 by Abby 13 Comments

I've made up a couple of these and they come together quickly. The tricky part for me, was trying to find all the little toys and trinkets to put inside. So, rather than posting a full tutorial on how to make one, I thought I'd tell you about where to look for the little trinkets. If you came here hoping for a tutorial, then here is a link to one on Homemade by Jill ...

Capsicum and Tomato Soup

July 7, 2012 by Abby 1 Comment

I love this soup and when I'm feeling like something healthy, this is one of the first things I make. The best bit about this soup is that it's awesome hot or cold! Having this soup in your recipe box is great, because you can serve it year round. If serving it cold, add a little extra seasoning at the end to make the flavours really shine.Capsicum and Tomato SoupServes 4 - 6 ...

Quick and satisfying project today making a brush Quick and satisfying project today making a brush roll for my art supplies. Vintage canvas from the stash (which I think is from a bougie Italian designer). Matching bag to come. Then I can grab and go for my next en plein air session.
I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate eac I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate each season and observe the cyclical nature of growth and of life. Through tending a garden we learn to embrace imperfection and patience. That the reason for everything is the journey not the destination.
My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Part My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Party was the Lucca Dress from @schultzapparel. I adore the 18th Century vibe! After toiling my measured size, I ended up going down 2 sizes and after a few minor tweaks I make to most patterns (shorten and move forward the shoulder and realign the side seams) it was good to go. I was planning to finish the front with eyelets but ended up hand sewing in hook and eye tape. I love the clean look! When trying it on I wanted a little more oomph in the hips so I added some tulle hip pads to the sides. I added in seam pockets too because...pockets! The fabric is from deep stash and originally purchased at the Philips Shirt Factory sale in the city maybe 10 years ago?! It was a dream to sew with! I used about 5m because it was only 90cm wide. I'm loving the result and hopefully the weather plays nice and I get another chance to wear it before it turns cold. The dipped waist makes it really comfortable to wear with room for a big lunch! #schlucca #sewmelbourne #sewmelbournegp #imakemyownclothes
My grandma always grew borage and would put it in My grandma always grew borage and would put it in salads. I didn't know anyone else who made salad with flowers in it (it was the 80s) and I thought she was a magical witch. I'm so excited to finally grow it in my own garden! When buying veggie seeds I found borage on @theseedcollection so couldn't help myself. Witches unite! ✨🌱
Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to front garden a bit easier. Used scraps of timber from the old retaining wall. He wasn't a fan of the circular saw but loved doing the drilling and screwing. Worked out just as I hoped! I don't have a builders square, but turns out a quilting ruler makes an excellent substitute.
