The Fancy Pants Leggings Blog Tour

May 20, 2013 by Abby 7 Comments

I have made so many pairs of these leggings that I don't need to refer to the pattern directions anymore. I was lucky enough to be a tester for the pattern during the design stage, so Roman is all set for Winter with several pairs of pyjamas pants. I tested out all kinds of knits from my stash, stretch knit, baby rib knit, jersey and interlock and they all worked a treat. I ...

Simplicity 3503 Pattern Review

March 4, 2013 by Abby 8 Comments

As you might know from the blog's Facebook page, we have internet finally! I'm slowly getting back into the blogging habit, but it's taking longer than I thought...sorry! I made this dress a while ago to add to my maternity wardrobe. The pattern itself is not maternity, but the placement of the gathers and the use of knit fabric makes it comfy for my growing belly. I think ...

Build-a-Bag: I’ve finished!

October 5, 2012 by Abby 14 Comments

My hand bag is finally finished! It didn't actually take that long to put the bag together, but if you've been following along with my Build-a-Bag series you will know I had a few dramas with my fabric order so a lot of waiting for the post was involved. I am glad I resized and re-ordered the fabric...I think the size of the sunflowers is perfect now! I am so thrilled with how ...

Build-a-Bag: The Pattern

July 16, 2012 by Abby 4 Comments

So while I'm waiting for my fabric swatches to arrive in the mail, I thought I'd tell you about the pattern I've chosen for my bag. At first I thought about making my own pattern for the handbag. I like my current bag, so with a few mods I could make up a pretty good pattern. But I quickly realised that I would have to make at least 1 prototype, probably more and that it ...

Oliver + S Bucket Hat – Pattern Review

January 27, 2012 by Abby 29 Comments

August 2019 - It appears this pattern is no longer available for free download. This is the first Oliver + S pattern I have tried out and I love it! It is well written, easy to understand and makes a great finished product that is true to size. It's funny that I say true to size, I actually had to make the size 3 - 5 years, even though Roman is only 15 months. That is because ...

Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melb Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melbourne garden party was the Charlie Caftan by @closetcorepatterns. I shortened it at the shoulders by an inch and think I shortened it at the bottom too. I altered the pockets so they attach into the waist panel, because I hate when in-seam pockets flap about and pull at the side seams. The side slits are a double turn narrow hem as the overlock and turn as suggested in the pattern looked puckered. The fabric is a Cotton + Steel rayon by Masaru Suzuki, which is a dream to sew with. I've made another dress in the red colour way.
Beans from the garden and my favourite way to eat Beans from the garden and my favourite way to eat them... Stir fry in hot oil (coconut is delish but whatever you have is fine) until a bit burnt (about 5 mins). Chuck in a few squirts of fish sauce for the last 5 secs and toss through.
Give them a minute to cool if you can lest you burn your mouth.

A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've added a hair hole, since why don't all hats have that?! Also added some garden wire to the brim. Instead of finishing the brim edge with bias, I did the usual RST stitch, fold and top stitch. That means the brim is a little shorter than the pattern. I wanted to keep the hat lightweight, so it's unlined and has only the two layers of canvas fabric for the brim. The cotton canvas is a vintage fabric from my stash, which originally cost 15 shillings and 9 pence (I think) per yard.
