Jumbo Outdoor Cushions

June 14, 2018 by Abby 4 Comments

We are in the process of designing a new outdoor decking area and while we are still in the early stages I'm already obsessing over the final (read fun and pretty) details. One thing we will definitely need is a load of lovely outdoor cushions. I am expecting we will be spending a lot of time out on the deck over summer, so I want lots of comfy places to sit myself. Perfect for ...

Vintage Weigels 2063 Dress

October 10, 2017 by Abby 6 Comments

I had been plodding away on this dress for the past few months, so when I received an invitation to a high tea for a pre-wedding event, I got my butt into gear and finished it off. I present you Weigels 2063! It was so much fun dressing up for the event! I've recently gotten into victory rolls. This was my third go. I think if I grow my hair a little longer they would be ...

Karate Belt Skirt

August 1, 2017 by Abby Leave a Comment

I've been on a bit of a skirt sewing binge lately, and this is one of the latest. I've noticed that this winter I seem to be gravitating more towards skirts and fleece lined tights to keep myself warm and my wardrobe was in need of a couple more winter-ish skirts (I've been wearing my wool check skirt to death). This skirt was made based on this pinterest pin which I have ...

Colour Blocked Mini Dress

January 12, 2017 by Abby 2 Comments

I made this dress many months ago and finally remembered to have some pictures taken so I can show you all. It's had a lot of wear! I originally made it to wear to the inaugural Dressmakers' Do which was a fabulous night. I've also worn it out to a few dinners and an engagement party. It's always good when something you make so quickly becomes a favourite.   The dress is ...

Vogue 9075 Culottes Jumpsuit

December 2, 2016 by Abby 6 Comments

It's been ages since I've posted anything. Life is busy blah blah, but to be honest, I've mainly been sewing for myself and I find it really hard to get pictures of my makes as I am typically the photographer. I love this make so much that I made an effort to get some photos for you. This is (mostly) Vogue 9075. It's culottes. It's a jumpsuit. It's all the things I never ...

Teacup Carrier

July 27, 2016 by Abby 14 Comments

I made this teacup carrier on the weekend at Social Sewing and I'm so pleased with how it turned out. A friend of mine is moving overseas in a couple of weeks. She has been known to carry her own teacup around because she believes that tea tastes better from a pretty china cup. I have to say I agree with her! I thought a little teacup carrier to safely carry her teacup around ...

March 24, 2016 by Abby 18 Comments

I realised it has been a while since I've posted anything, so I thought I'd show you something special. Here is the story of my Kite Flight Quilt. If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen this quilt at the end of last year. It's so beautiful it gives me a big smile every time I go past it on the bed. The Kite Flight Quilt is a pattern from Better Off Thread. I ...

My #QuiltLikeABoss Project

February 12, 2016 by Abby 5 Comments

Today I wanted to share the project I am making for the #QuiltLikeABoss sewalong. Are you going to join in too? I've had this paper piecing pattern by QuietPlay for a while now and I'm quite excited to use it. I've done a little bit of paper piecing and it's a lot of fun. I love how accurate it is and how much detail you can squeeze into a small block. I've chosen to do the ...

Best of 2015

January 7, 2016 by Abby 1 Comment

I did one of these posts last year (see here) and it was fun to look back on what you liked the most so I thought I'd do it again this year. My handmade gift guides for boys of all ages are always popular and took a few spots in the top 10. You can see the whole series here. Free Baby Uggs Knitting Pattern I can't believe how popular this pattern continues to be. ...

The Selfish Swap – Holiday Edition

October 27, 2015 by Abby 6 Comments

I can't believe how quickly this year has gone! With the festive season almost upon us, I thought it was the perfect time for round two of the selfish swap. The first round was so much fun I was dying to do it again. No idea what I'm talking about? You can read all about the Selfish Swap here. This time it's a bit festive. But as always, you make the rules, so there's no ...

Cotton + Steel Quilt – A Work in Progress

October 7, 2015 by Abby 11 Comments

You might have seen this quilt in my Instagram feed, but I'm posting a few in progress shots of my Cotton + Steel Quilt here for y'all! When Ms Midge announced the Cotton + Steel charm swap, I jumped straight in. I love the Cotton + Steel range and thought this was a wonderful way to get my hands on 112 different charm squares from the range. For this quilt I used 110 of them. ...

A Happy Quilt with a Sad Story

August 21, 2015 by Abby 32 Comments

A few weeks ago, Roman's friend's Dad died. She is a friend from his kinder class and everyone in the kinder community was shocked and upset. We all wanted to help in some way but had no idea what we could do. What would a family who has just lost their father/husband need?! We've organised a dinner roster for the next couple of months, but when I was talking to some friends ...

Quick and satisfying project today making a brush Quick and satisfying project today making a brush roll for my art supplies. Vintage canvas from the stash (which I think is from a bougie Italian designer). Matching bag to come. Then I can grab and go for my next en plein air session.
I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate eac I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate each season and observe the cyclical nature of growth and of life. Through tending a garden we learn to embrace imperfection and patience. That the reason for everything is the journey not the destination.
My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Part My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Party was the Lucca Dress from @schultzapparel. I adore the 18th Century vibe! After toiling my measured size, I ended up going down 2 sizes and after a few minor tweaks I make to most patterns (shorten and move forward the shoulder and realign the side seams) it was good to go. I was planning to finish the front with eyelets but ended up hand sewing in hook and eye tape. I love the clean look! When trying it on I wanted a little more oomph in the hips so I added some tulle hip pads to the sides. I added in seam pockets too because...pockets! The fabric is from deep stash and originally purchased at the Philips Shirt Factory sale in the city maybe 10 years ago?! It was a dream to sew with! I used about 5m because it was only 90cm wide. I'm loving the result and hopefully the weather plays nice and I get another chance to wear it before it turns cold. The dipped waist makes it really comfortable to wear with room for a big lunch! #schlucca #sewmelbourne #sewmelbournegp #imakemyownclothes
My grandma always grew borage and would put it in My grandma always grew borage and would put it in salads. I didn't know anyone else who made salad with flowers in it (it was the 80s) and I thought she was a magical witch. I'm so excited to finally grow it in my own garden! When buying veggie seeds I found borage on @theseedcollection so couldn't help myself. Witches unite! ✨🌱
Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to front garden a bit easier. Used scraps of timber from the old retaining wall. He wasn't a fan of the circular saw but loved doing the drilling and screwing. Worked out just as I hoped! I don't have a builders square, but turns out a quilting ruler makes an excellent substitute.
