Wilton Gingerbread House – Giveaway (closed)

December 14, 2015 by Abby 46 Comments

gingerbreadhouse

I was recently contacted by Spotlight and asked to review the Wilton Gingerbread House Kit for them. Gingerbread houses look like so much fun, but seem like a lot of effort. And I’m always worried that I won’t make the gingerbread pieces thick or strong enough and it’ll collapse. This kit takes all the stress out of it and makes for a fun family activity!

Keep reading because I have 2 kits to giveaway!

housepieces

The kit comes with all the gingerbread pieces needed to make the house, a huge bag of icing (I think I used half of it), 3 lots of lollies for decorating and a piping bag and tip. It also has very thorough instructions on how to assemble the house and 3 decorating options or you can decorate it however you like. Roman and I went the DIY version.

I put the house together one afternoon and we decorated it the next day. The instructions suggest trimming the piece to square them up. Mine were pretty good so I left them alone. The instructions also say there is a piece of cardboard to use for the base, but I couldn’t figure out which piece they meant so I built mine directly on a plate.

The icing is a great consistency. Soft enough to pipe nicely and also hard enough to hold the lollies in place. I didn’t seal the icing bag or the piping bag between constructing and decorating and after taking the dried piece of icing out that had been in the air, the rest of the icing was fine.

construction

Roman was so excited when it arrived and asked every 5 minutes when we could decorate it. I had control of the piping bag and he told me where to pipe the icing. He had the job of eating the lollies sticking the lollies on. Please note that the little tree and snowman in the pictures are not from the kit, they are my own Christmas themed nesting dolls.

The Gingerbread smells great and I can’t wait to eat it! Overall I was really impressed with the kit. It was easy to put together, pretty foolproof really. Roman had a great time decorating it and it looks really good. Decorating the gingerbread house was a fun activity for the afternoon. The kit retails for $19.99 and is available a Spotlight stores nationally.

I’m looking forward to making another one next year. In fact, I think this might become a bit of a family tradition.

What’s your favourite Christmas tradition? Leave a comment below and use the Rafflecopter form to enter the draw. I have 2 Wilton Gingerbread House Kits to giveaway. Competition closes Midnight Thursday 17th, December 2015. Winners will be chosen my me and notified by email. If no response is received in 48 hours, a new winner will be chosen. My favourite tradition is putting up the tree with the children. It’s the time that I leave my perfection tendencies aside and just let them have fun. I love seeing all the little handmade ornaments and memories with each and every one.

My favourite tradition is meeting up with our best friends and their kids on Xmas eve, and all eating takeaway then sitting down to watch the Carols! In years gone past, whilst the carols were on, the dads would go out and assemble whichever equipment santa was bringing!

As a child it was going to my grandparents and finding the treasure (loose change) my pa hid around the garden, my nans streamed pudding (with coins hidden in it!) and all the family& food every year at Christmas. Now my own kids are getting old enough to understand it’s leaving snacks out for Santa, putting up the tree& decorating the house.

Every year my mum makes my family a Christmas cake. But we are only allowed to cut & start eating on Christmas Eve. I then have an extra piece when I’m wrapping last minute presents. Oh & Santa gets left a piece too.

I can remember helping my grandmother and mother. Now it is my turn! My mother judges it each year just like my grandmother did. From what they say, the recipe and plum pudding making has been going for generations before them.

Our favorite tradition is our elf on the shelf. This is his 3rd Christmas with us and we love the funny things he gets up to. He left us a cardboard on sticker gingerbread house to decorate that came from spotlight, a real one would be so much more impressive!

our one big Christmas tradition as a family is caring, sharing, love, laughter, noise and memories. Sounds corny, but we care about each other, we share what we have (I cannot remember a Christmas either as a child or married that hasn’t included other people, be it family, friends or at times strangers who needed to be included). We love, we laugh, we are so, so noisy and I hope and pray my family have long lasting, happy memories of Christmas’ past and in the future. (and I must admit some delicious food, preferably cooked by someone else – the odd glass or two of pleasant drink and gifts of chocolate really hit the spot too!!)

My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Part My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Party was the Lucca Dress from @schultzapparel. I adore the 18th Century vibe! After toiling my measured size, I ended up going down 2 sizes and after a few minor tweaks I make to most patterns (shorten and move forward the shoulder and realign the side seams) it was good to go. I was planning to finish the front with eyelets but ended up hand sewing in hook and eye tape. I love the clean look! When trying it on I wanted a little more oomph in the hips so I added some tulle hip pads to the sides. I added in seam pockets too because...pockets! The fabric is from deep stash and originally purchased at the Philips Shirt Factory sale in the city maybe 10 years ago?! It was a dream to sew with! I used about 5m because it was only 90cm wide. I'm loving the result and hopefully the weather plays nice and I get another chance to wear it before it turns cold. The dipped waist makes it really comfortable to wear with room for a big lunch! #schlucca #sewmelbourne #sewmelbournegp #imakemyownclothes

I didn't know anyone else who made salad with flowers in it (it was the 80s) and I thought she was a magical witch. I'm so excited to finally grow it in my own garden! When buying veggie seeds I found borage on @theseedcollection so couldn't help myself. Witches unite! ✨🌱

He wasn't a fan of the circular saw but loved doing the drilling and screwing. Worked out just as I hoped! I don't have a builders square, but turns out a quilting ruler makes an excellent substitute.
