Baked Sage and Onion Stuffing Meatballs

December 29, 2016 by Abby 1 Comment

I don't typically have much luck taking pictures of brown food. I think it's just a hard food group to take sexy photos of. But take my word for it that these Baked Sage and Onion Stuffing Meatballs are super tasty! They taste just like Christmas! This recipe is based on this one here, but I have made quite a few tweaks to it. The main one being that I've increased the ...

Wilton Gingerbread House – Giveaway (closed)

December 14, 2015 by Abby 46 Comments

I was recently contacted by Spotlight and asked to review the Wilton Gingerbread House Kit for them. Gingerbread houses look like so much fun, but seem like a lot of effort. And I'm always worried that I won't make the gingerbread pieces thick or strong enough and it'll collapse. This kit takes all the stress out of it and makes for a fun family activity! Keep reading ...

The first round was so much fun I was dying to do it again. No idea what I'm talking about? You can read all about the Selfish Swap here. This time it's a bit festive. But as always, you make the rules, so there's no ...

Christmas Tree Skirt

8 Panel Christmas Tree Skirt

December 15, 2014 by Abby 2 Comments

I never used to understand the point of a Christmas Tree Skirt. That was until I had toddlers. Toddlers who love to break my beautiful glass ornaments. Now I think tree skirts are one of those things that should be included in the pack you get at the hospital. So after having a few ornaments broken, I decided to make a Christmas Tree Skirt. This one is big! I wanted it to be ...

Christmas Stockings

December 4, 2014 by Abby 2 Comments

I was meant to make Ted's Christmas stocking last year, but I never quite got around to it. The fabric has been sitting on my to do pile for a whole year! My sister in law and I had a bit of a Christmas sewing night earlier this week and both put stockings together for our poor neglected second children. Anyone else get a bit lazy making things for their subsequent ...

Merry Christmas Everyone!

December 19, 2013 by Abby 10 Comments

We are flying up to Queensland soon to visit my Mum's family for Christmas. I'm really looking forward to the nice weather, a bit of a break and hanging out with my cousins and all the family. Hubby is hoping to squeeze in a trip to a theme park while we're there. I've had lots of fun blogging this year and have no idea what's going to be coming up on the blog in 2014. I ...

12 Days of Christmas

December 12, 2013 by Abby 44 Comments

Ted got the call that he was needed at the North Pole to help making toys. Of course, the correct elf attire was needed. I'm guest posting today over on Sewpony as part of the 12 Days of Christmas tour. You can read about all the ups and downs of this little outfit over on the blog now.   ...

With so many talented ladies on board, especially with crazy awesome quilting skills (which I do not have) I wanted to do something a bit different and fun, so I made a Pyjama Eating Monster ...

20 Handmade Gift Ideas for Men

November 25, 2013 by Abby 3 Comments

Finally, the list I think a lot of you have been waiting for... handmade gifts for men! I've had so much fun putting all these lists together, I'm a bit sad that this is the last one. Men can be tricky to buy for and even harder to make for. They are usually pretty happy to just cruise along with whatever they have, but I think it's nice to be able to create something special ...

Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melb Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melbourne garden party was the Charlie Caftan by @closetcorepatterns. I shortened it at the shoulders by an inch and think I shortened it at the bottom too. I altered the pockets so they attach into the waist panel, because I hate when in-seam pockets flap about and pull at the side seams. The side slits are a double turn narrow hem as the overlock and turn as suggested in the pattern looked puckered. The fabric is a Cotton + Steel rayon by Masaru Suzuki, which is a dream to sew with. I've made another dress in the red colour way.
Beans from the garden and my favourite way to eat Beans from the garden and my favourite way to eat them... Stir fry in hot oil (coconut is delish but whatever you have is fine) until a bit burnt (about 5 mins). Chuck in a few squirts of fish sauce for the last 5 secs and toss through.
Give them a minute to cool if you can lest you burn your mouth.

A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've added a hair hole, since why don't all hats have that?! Also added some garden wire to the brim. Instead of finishing the brim edge with bias, I did the usual RST stitch, fold and top stitch. That means the brim is a little shorter than the pattern. I wanted to keep the hat lightweight, so it's unlined and has only the two layers of canvas fabric for the brim. The cotton canvas is a vintage fabric from my stash, which originally cost 15 shillings and 9 pence (I think) per yard.
