culottes jumpsuit

Vogue 9075 Culottes Jumpsuit

December 2, 2016 by Abby 6 Comments

It's been ages since I've posted anything. Life is busy blah blah, but to be honest, I've mainly been sewing for myself and I find it really hard to get pictures of my makes as I am typically the photographer. I love this make so much that I made an effort to get some photos for you. This is (mostly) Vogue 9075. It's culottes. It's a jumpsuit. It's all the things I never ...

Mini Chocolate Cupcakes

October 18, 2016 by Abby Leave a Comment

I love mini cupcakes. They are the perfect size for kids and when I eat them it seems like it's fine to eat 3 or so because they are so small. This is my go to recipe for mini chocolate cupcakes. It's easy and reliable and they always turn out great. I love melt and mix recipes because they can be made without any planning...no need to have the butter soft. I have also made ...

Teacup Carrier

July 27, 2016 by Abby 14 Comments

I made this teacup carrier on the weekend at Social Sewing and I'm so pleased with how it turned out. A friend of mine is moving overseas in a couple of weeks. She has been known to carry her own teacup around because she believes that tea tastes better from a pretty china cup. I have to say I agree with her! I thought a little teacup carrier to safely carry her teacup around ...

The Blog has had a Makeover

June 28, 2016 by Abby 5 Comments

It's been a while since I've written a post...quite a while. I have been sewing, so it's not like I don't have anything to post about, it's just that blogging seems like too much hard work lately. Anyone else agree? Roman is at school now so you think I would have more time for it, but Ted dropped his nap at much the same time so I don't get much time to myself. Which means ...

I realised it has been a while since I've posted anything, so I thought I'd show you something special. Here is the story of my Kite Flight Quilt. The Kite Flight Quilt is a pattern from Better Off Thread. I ...

My #QuiltLikeABoss Project

February 12, 2016 by Abby 5 Comments

Today I wanted to share the project I am making for the #QuiltLikeABoss sewalong. Are you going to join in too? I've had this paper piecing pattern by QuietPlay for a while now and I'm quite excited to use it. I've done a little bit of paper piecing and it's a lot of fun. I love how accurate it is and how much detail you can squeeze into a small block. I've chosen to do the ...

Vegan Chocolate Mousse

February 5, 2016 by Abby 7 Comments

Have you heard about aquafaba? It's the new craze sweeping the vegan cooking world. It can be used to replace the eggwhites in a lot of recipes. And you'll never guess what it is. The juice from a can of chickpeas!! What?! That's right...chickpea juice! In fact, you can use the liquid from any cooked legumes. You can read all about aquafaba here. My friend told me about this ...

Why Making Quilts is Awesome!

January 14, 2016 by Abby 3 Comments

I'm not trying to start a fight here, but after working on the fifth iteration of a bodice muslin recently, I was wishing I was working on a quilt instead. Here are some reasons that making quilts is awesome. If you've never made one then you should give it a try! You get to use fun fabric ranges that you wouldn't use on clothes. There are so many gorgeous fabric ranges ...

Today I am excited to announce that together with Rachel and Sarah, we will be hosting a QuiltAlong, called Learn to QuiltLikeABoss. Many of you have said you'd love to learn how to quilt, but don't know where to start. Since the three of us love quilting, we are going to show you how! Like any new craft, quilting can seem overwhelming - but compared to making a dress, ...

My handmade gift guides for boys of all ages are always popular and took a few spots in the top 10. You can see the whole series here. Free Baby Uggs Knitting Pattern I can't believe how popular this pattern continues to be. ...

Wilton Gingerbread House – Giveaway (closed)

December 14, 2015 by Abby 46 Comments

I was recently contacted by Spotlight and asked to review the Wilton Gingerbread House Kit for them. Gingerbread houses look like so much fun, but seem like a lot of effort. And I'm always worried that I won't make the gingerbread pieces thick or strong enough and it'll collapse. This kit takes all the stress out of it and makes for a fun family activity! Keep reading ...

Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melb Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melbourne garden party was the Charlie Caftan by @closetcorepatterns. I shortened it at the shoulders by an inch and think I shortened it at the bottom too. I altered the pockets so they attach into the waist panel, because I hate when in-seam pockets flap about and pull at the side seams. The side slits are a double turn narrow hem as the overlock and turn as suggested in the pattern looked puckered. The fabric is a Cotton + Steel rayon by Masaru Suzuki, which is a dream to sew with. I've made another dress in the red colour way.
Beans from the garden and my favourite way to eat Beans from the garden and my favourite way to eat them... Stir fry in hot oil (coconut is delish but whatever you have is fine) until a bit burnt (about 5 mins). Chuck in a few squirts of fish sauce for the last 5 secs and toss through.
Give them a minute to cool if you can lest you burn your mouth.

A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've added a hair hole, since why don't all hats have that?! Also added some garden wire to the brim. Instead of finishing the brim edge with bias, I did the usual RST stitch, fold and top stitch. That means the brim is a little shorter than the pattern. I wanted to keep the hat lightweight, so it's unlined and has only the two layers of canvas fabric for the brim. The cotton canvas is a vintage fabric from my stash, which originally cost 15 shillings and 9 pence (I think) per yard.
