Vintage Weigels 2063 Dress

October 10, 2017 by Abby 6 Comments

I had been plodding away on this dress for the past few months, so when I received an invitation to a high tea for a pre-wedding event, I got my butt into gear and finished it off. I present you Weigels 2063! It was so much fun dressing up for the event! I've recently gotten into victory rolls. This was my third go. I think if I grow my hair a little longer they would be ...

Karate Belt Skirt

August 1, 2017 by Abby Leave a Comment

I've been on a bit of a skirt sewing binge lately, and this is one of the latest. I've noticed that this winter I seem to be gravitating more towards skirts and fleece lined tights to keep myself warm and my wardrobe was in need of a couple more winter-ish skirts (I've been wearing my wool check skirt to death). This skirt was made based on this pinterest pin which I have ...

Sew in Tune

February 12, 2015 by Abby 18 Comments

Today I'm posting for the Sew In Tune series. It's hosted by Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy! and Melly Sews. It's a week filled with outfits inspired by music. I always love to see what everyone creates...such varied inspiration! I had no trouble picking a song. Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars is Roman's favourite song and we have to listen to it several times a day. He loves ...

Simplicity 2444

November 20, 2014 by Abby 27 Comments

If there's one thing you can be sure of, it's that things change. I've experienced many changes over the last few years. Moving to London for a year and then moving back again. Being pregnant and then a new Mum while we were over there. A couple more house moves. Another baby. I have mentioned on the blog before, that I didn't really buy any new clothes during that time. My ...

Titchy Threads: Rowan Tee

November 12, 2014 by Abby 12 Comments

Who doesn't love options?! The Rowan Tee, which is the latest sewing pattern from Titchy Threads has a lot...A LOT! 144 combinations to be exact! You can make it long sleeve, short sleeve, with cuffs or hems, add a hoodie, pocket or some stripe accents. I went pretty basic with this one. The warm weather is coming, so a short sleeve tee was a must. I used an old tshirt of ...

This latest Pattern Parcel must be the most perfect pattern parcel for me...ever! It contains all the essentials for my mum uniform. I have made up the Hudson Pants and the Syrah Skirt and haven't taken them off since. Well, only to give them a quick wash, as you can see above. I've got the Julia Cardigan pattern printed out and ready to go too. I apologise for my average ...

Shearwater Kaftan

Shearwater Kaftan

July 17, 2014 by Abby 18 Comments

We are in the depths of winter so naturally I'm dreaming of warmer days. As part of the Make it Perfect Pattern Parade, I decided to sew up the Shearwater Kaftan. The kaftan is my kinda style. On the dressier side of casual but still nice and comfy for chasing the boys around and hanging out at home. There is so much to love about this pattern! It comes together easily and ...

May 12, 2014 by Abby 8 Comments

Oh, how I love these! You can't go wrong with some 'business in the front, party in the back' clothes for kids. These shorts are certainly a bit of fun! This is my last make from the Sew Fab Pattern Bundle and I've been so impressed with each of the patterns I have used. This pattern is the Terra's Treasures Long Beach Board Shorts. It's a great pattern with an awesome size ...

Sew Fab – Laurel Tunic/Dress…well top!

May 9, 2014 by Abby 10 Comments

This was a fun sewing project for a few reasons. First off, I bought the fabric at the op shop (thrift store). It's a merino baby rib knit and cost $4! What a score! It was an odd shape, obviously left over from someone else's past sewing project. It also had a couple little holes in it and a stain or two, so it was a fun challenge to get all the pieces cut out of it. I changed ...

Quick and satisfying project today making a brush Quick and satisfying project today making a brush roll for my art supplies. Vintage canvas from the stash (which I think is from a bougie Italian designer). Matching bag to come. Then I can grab and go for my next en plein air session.
I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate eac I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate each season and observe the cyclical nature of growth and of life. Through tending a garden we learn to embrace imperfection and patience. That the reason for everything is the journey not the destination.
My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Part My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Party was the Lucca Dress from @schultzapparel. I adore the 18th Century vibe! After toiling my measured size, I ended up going down 2 sizes and after a few minor tweaks I make to most patterns (shorten and move forward the shoulder and realign the side seams) it was good to go. I was planning to finish the front with eyelets but ended up hand sewing in hook and eye tape. I love the clean look! When trying it on I wanted a little more oomph in the hips so I added some tulle hip pads to the sides. I added in seam pockets too because...pockets! The fabric is from deep stash and originally purchased at the Philips Shirt Factory sale in the city maybe 10 years ago?! It was a dream to sew with! I used about 5m because it was only 90cm wide. I'm loving the result and hopefully the weather plays nice and I get another chance to wear it before it turns cold. The dipped waist makes it really comfortable to wear with room for a big lunch! #schlucca #sewmelbourne #sewmelbournegp #imakemyownclothes
My grandma always grew borage and would put it in My grandma always grew borage and would put it in salads. I didn't know anyone else who made salad with flowers in it (it was the 80s) and I thought she was a magical witch. I'm so excited to finally grow it in my own garden! When buying veggie seeds I found borage on @theseedcollection so couldn't help myself. Witches unite! ✨🌱
Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to front garden a bit easier. Used scraps of timber from the old retaining wall. He wasn't a fan of the circular saw but loved doing the drilling and screwing. Worked out just as I hoped! I don't have a builders square, but turns out a quilting ruler makes an excellent substitute.
