The Big T Nursing Top

September 23, 2013 by Abby 18 Comments

Selfish Sewing Week starts today and I've already got something to show you. I did kinda cheat and make it early, but that's ok...right?! Selfish Sewing Week is being organised by Rachael from Imagine Gnats and Jill from Made with Moxie. What a great idea! I think most of us sew a lot more for our kids than ourselves. Fashion and breastfeeding don't really go that well ...

My Colette Sorbetto Muslin

September 17, 2013 by Abby 16 Comments

I've had the Sorbetto on my 'To Sew' list for ages. It's a free pattern with nice simple lines and only two pattern pieces. Ros and I have talked about making it and she's even made some up. With Selfish Sewing Week coming up, I wanted to get the fit spot on so that I can whip up a few. First, I took my bust measurement and according to that I should make up a size 6...So a ...

Small Fry Skinny Jeans

September 5, 2013 by Abby 10 Comments

A couple weeks back, Laura from Craftstorming had a sew-along for her new upcoming pattern, the Small Fry Skinny Jeans. With the change of season coming, it was perfect timing and I followed along to make up a pair for Roman. He loves his new 'Lion pants' (the waistband facing and pocket lining have a lion print on them) and I'm having a hard time getting them in the wash ...

Making your own Underwear

August 2, 2013 by Abby 18 Comments

A few years back, I came across the concept of making your own underwear. A few bloggers were doing it and to be honest, I thought they were bonkers! What a waste of time!! To those bloggers, I sincerely apologise! I have seen the light. Sure, you can buy underwear for less than $1 a pair, but my issue is with fit. I hate buying underwear! You buy a pair hoping they'll fit ...

Prepster Pullover aka ‘The Peter Rabbit Shirt’

June 12, 2013 by Abby 8 Comments

Not too long ago I made a mental note to myself to never bother making a kids shirt. It seemed like too much fiddly work and I thought there were plenty out there cheap enough to buy that it seemed silly to go to the trouble. Then I came across this fabric and 2 days before Easter, I suddenly changed my mind! I'm pretty sure after the Jacket, this is my last Peter Rabbit ...

The Fancy Pants Leggings Blog Tour

May 20, 2013 by Abby 7 Comments

I have made so many pairs of these leggings that I don't need to refer to the pattern directions anymore. I was lucky enough to be a tester for the pattern during the design stage, so Roman is all set for Winter with several pairs of pyjamas pants. I tested out all kinds of knits from my stash, stretch knit, baby rib knit, jersey and interlock and they all worked a treat. I ...

KCW – Coastal Cargos, Flashback Tees and Fancy Pants

April 28, 2013 by Abby 20 Comments

These would have to be some of the least 'Coastal' or 'Cargo' looking Coastal Cargos I've seen. I wanted to play with the pattern and Roman needed some pants for Church, so they're more Tuxedo style. I really like the pattern, it gives you so many options, so there will be a lot more of these coming. I've already bought 5 pieces of fabric for other pairs!   These pants ...

KCW: Peter Rabbit Jacket

April 27, 2013 by Abby 25 Comments

Roman loves Peter Rabbit. He actually has 2 Peter Rabbit softies, one named Peter, the other named Michael. In the photo above, Peter is on the left, Michael is on the right. I think Michael just wins out as the favourite, but if Michael isn't around, he's happy to hang out Peter.   For a while now, I've been planning on making him a jacket to match 'the boys' and ...

Simplicity 3503 Pattern Review

March 4, 2013 by Abby 8 Comments

As you might know from the blog's Facebook page, we have internet finally! I'm slowly getting back into the blogging habit, but it's taking longer than I thought...sorry! I made this dress a while ago to add to my maternity wardrobe. The pattern itself is not maternity, but the placement of the gathers and the use of knit fabric makes it comfy for my growing belly. I think ...

It’s a Boy!

January 18, 2013 by Abby 14 Comments

That's right, there's going to be a new pooping and screaming bundle of joy here soon! I'm about 21 weeks, so just past the half way mark... Boy has it gone quickly! We found out last week that the new bub is a boy, so hubby and I can stop thinking about a possible name change for the blog and start thinking of names for the baby! We were in total crisis mode for a while! ...

KCWC Wrap Up

October 14, 2012 by Abby 2 Comments

I had grand plans for a Super Sewing Saturday. Hubby would keep Roman company and I would get a crazy amount of sewing done and have lots to show you. Then Mum offered to have Roman for the day, so instead hubby and I went out for lunch and to the movies. It was really nice to have a day together and relax. But, that does mean I don't have a lot to show you. I did manage to ...

KCWC Update

October 11, 2012 by Abby 4 Comments

Well KCWC is already past the halfway mark and I've been doing a lot of sewing, but I don't have a lot to show you. I've been making a few things for my niece for her first birthday, but I don't want to put up any pictures until after her birthday. I've made Roman a pair of shorts and I'm halfway through the Oliver + S Bucket hat. I'm making 2 at once which is going ...

Quick and satisfying project today making a brush Quick and satisfying project today making a brush roll for my art supplies. Vintage canvas from the stash (which I think is from a bougie Italian designer). Matching bag to come. Then I can grab and go for my next en plein air session.
I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate eac I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate each season and observe the cyclical nature of growth and of life. Through tending a garden we learn to embrace imperfection and patience. That the reason for everything is the journey not the destination.
My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Part My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Party was the Lucca Dress from @schultzapparel. I adore the 18th Century vibe! After toiling my measured size, I ended up going down 2 sizes and after a few minor tweaks I make to most patterns (shorten and move forward the shoulder and realign the side seams) it was good to go. I was planning to finish the front with eyelets but ended up hand sewing in hook and eye tape. I love the clean look! When trying it on I wanted a little more oomph in the hips so I added some tulle hip pads to the sides. I added in seam pockets too because...pockets! The fabric is from deep stash and originally purchased at the Philips Shirt Factory sale in the city maybe 10 years ago?! It was a dream to sew with! I used about 5m because it was only 90cm wide. I'm loving the result and hopefully the weather plays nice and I get another chance to wear it before it turns cold. The dipped waist makes it really comfortable to wear with room for a big lunch! #schlucca #sewmelbourne #sewmelbournegp #imakemyownclothes
My grandma always grew borage and would put it in My grandma always grew borage and would put it in salads. I didn't know anyone else who made salad with flowers in it (it was the 80s) and I thought she was a magical witch. I'm so excited to finally grow it in my own garden! When buying veggie seeds I found borage on @theseedcollection so couldn't help myself. Witches unite! ✨🌱
Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to front garden a bit easier. Used scraps of timber from the old retaining wall. He wasn't a fan of the circular saw but loved doing the drilling and screwing. Worked out just as I hoped! I don't have a builders square, but turns out a quilting ruler makes an excellent substitute.
