Kids Clothes Week is Coming!

January 27, 2015 by Abby 2 Comments

Kids Clothes Week is on again next week! I am in love with the theme too....UPCYCLING! I love upcycling for so many reasons, it's economical, it's great for the environment, it lets you breathe new life into old items, it lets you reinvent your mistakes, and it can save you time too as I will often re-use the hems, necklines or pockets where possible. There are a heap of ...

KCW Wrap Up

October 28, 2013 by Abby 7 Comments

And just like that, another Kids Clothes Week has come to an end. They sure do go quickly! I had quite a bit going on last week so didn't get a huge amount of sewing done, but I'm happy with what I managed to do. The main thing I worked on was some swim nappies. Now that we've got a swimming pool it makes much more sense to have some proper swim nappies. I use cloth nappies ...

KCW Update

October 24, 2013 by Abby 9 Comments

Well I have been getting a bit of sewing done this week, but I don't have much to show you. I've cut out pieces to make up four swim nappies for the boys in time for Summer, but haven't actually got at the machine with them yet. I also drafted a long sleeve raglan tee with the plan to make Roman a rash vest. I drafted a size 4, future proofing as Mums like to do, but I got ...

Kids Clothes Week Inspiration for You

October 19, 2013 by Abby 11 Comments

I'm still deciding what to sew next week for Kids Clothes Week, so while I make my mind up I thought I'd pull together a round up of the boys clothes I've made in the past... a bit of a reminder for me and some inspiration for you! Kids Clothes Week has grown into such an online community event and I always look forward to it. I was really disappointed that I couldn't ...

KCW – Coastal Cargos, Flashback Tees and Fancy Pants

April 28, 2013 by Abby 20 Comments

These would have to be some of the least 'Coastal' or 'Cargo' looking Coastal Cargos I've seen. I wanted to play with the pattern and Roman needed some pants for Church, so they're more Tuxedo style. I really like the pattern, it gives you so many options, so there will be a lot more of these coming. I've already bought 5 pieces of fabric for other pairs!   These pants ...

KCW: Peter Rabbit Jacket

April 27, 2013 by Abby 25 Comments

Roman loves Peter Rabbit. He actually has 2 Peter Rabbit softies, one named Peter, the other named Michael. In the photo above, Peter is on the left, Michael is on the right. I think Michael just wins out as the favourite, but if Michael isn't around, he's happy to hang out Peter.   For a while now, I've been planning on making him a jacket to match 'the boys' and ...

KCWC Wrap Up

October 14, 2012 by Abby 2 Comments

I had grand plans for a Super Sewing Saturday. Hubby would keep Roman company and I would get a crazy amount of sewing done and have lots to show you. Then Mum offered to have Roman for the day, so instead hubby and I went out for lunch and to the movies. It was really nice to have a day together and relax. But, that does mean I don't have a lot to show you. I did manage to ...

KCWC Update

October 11, 2012 by Abby 4 Comments

Well KCWC is already past the halfway mark and I've been doing a lot of sewing, but I don't have a lot to show you. I've been making a few things for my niece for her first birthday, but I don't want to put up any pictures until after her birthday. I've made Roman a pair of shorts and I'm halfway through the Oliver + S Bucket hat. I'm making 2 at once which is going ...

Ready, Set, Go!

October 8, 2012 by Abby 4 Comments

KCWC starts today! Are you sewing along? If you haven't heard of the Kids Clothes Week Challenge before, here's the low-down. The idea is to spend 1 hour each day for one week sewing some kids clothes. Meg hosts the KCWC twice a year and I love the concept! It's on at the change of season, so perfect for getting your little ones wardrobe organised. If you think you'd like to ...

KCWC – Part 3

May 2, 2012 by Abby 4 Comments

Kids Clothes Week Challenge is indeed over, but I just couldn't handle having the hooded vest unfinished, so finish it I did! What an awful project! Everything that was wrong with it was all my fault, but it worked out all right in the end. As mentioned in my previous KCWC post, the fabric is a lycra blend so loves to stretch, which made sewing the zip in a nightmare. I ended up ...

KCWC – Part 2

April 29, 2012 by Abby 11 Comments

It's been a very busy week and I've had a lot of fun, but I think I'll be quite happy to have a holiday from my sewing machine for a bit. Today we decided to go for a drive out to the country, so I didn't get to do any sewing today and sadly I didn't get to finish the hoodie vest, but I'm surprised with the amount I did get done. Roman had lots of fun running around in the park ...

KCWC – Part 1

April 26, 2012 by Abby 11 Comments

Well, we're half way through the week and so half way through the Kids Clothes Week Challenge. So far it's been lots of fun and I've been good and organised. Well, organised enough to get lots of sewing done, but not enough to post a project each day. It's been raining all week and so dark I can't take any photos. Anyway, here's what I've made so far:   First up I made Roman ...

Quick and satisfying project today making a brush Quick and satisfying project today making a brush roll for my art supplies. Vintage canvas from the stash (which I think is from a bougie Italian designer). Matching bag to come. Then I can grab and go for my next en plein air session.

Through tending a garden we learn to embrace imperfection and patience. That the reason for everything is the journey not the destination.
My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Part My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Party was the Lucca Dress from @schultzapparel. I adore the 18th Century vibe! After toiling my measured size, I ended up going down 2 sizes and after a few minor tweaks I make to most patterns (shorten and move forward the shoulder and realign the side seams) it was good to go. I was planning to finish the front with eyelets but ended up hand sewing in hook and eye tape. I love the clean look! When trying it on I wanted a little more oomph in the hips so I added some tulle hip pads to the sides. I added in seam pockets too because...pockets! The fabric is from deep stash and originally purchased at the Philips Shirt Factory sale in the city maybe 10 years ago?! It was a dream to sew with! I used about 5m because it was only 90cm wide. I'm loving the result and hopefully the weather plays nice and I get another chance to wear it before it turns cold. The dipped waist makes it really comfortable to wear with room for a big lunch! #schlucca #sewmelbourne #sewmelbournegp #imakemyownclothes
My grandma always grew borage and would put it in My grandma always grew borage and would put it in salads. I didn't know anyone else who made salad with flowers in it (it was the 80s) and I thought she was a magical witch. I'm so excited to finally grow it in my own garden! When buying veggie seeds I found borage on @theseedcollection so couldn't help myself. Witches unite! ✨🌱
Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to front garden a bit easier. Used scraps of timber from the old retaining wall. He wasn't a fan of the circular saw but loved doing the drilling and screwing. Worked out just as I hoped! I don't have a builders square, but turns out a quilting ruler makes an excellent substitute.
