KCW Update

October 24, 2013 by Abby 9 Comments

KCW

Well I have been getting a bit of sewing done this week, but I don’t have much to show you.

I’ve cut out pieces to make up four swim nappies for the boys in time for Summer, but haven’t actually got at the machine with them yet. I also drafted a long sleeve raglan tee with the plan to make Roman a rash vest. I drafted a size 4, future proofing as Mums like to do, but I got him to try it on today and it’s enormous! So, I think it would be smarter to buy a raglan pattern and use that. Any recommendations?

The things I have managed to sew this week I can’t show you…Top Secret Birthday and Christmas stuff. If you follow me on Instagram then you will have seen what I’m talking about.

Roman has started requesting to hold and cuddle Ted all the time, which is rather cute so I took a couple sneaky photos when I had the chance.

Hey Abby, I’m feeling much the same way – my KCW has been slow going this time too. I LOVE and totally overuse this raglan tee pattern – http://www.etsy.com/listing/117073411/the-acadia-tee-pdf-pattern-mamastellato?ref=shop_home_feat – it’s super simple but effective. Pretty much every KCW I churn a couple of these bad boys out – and this time is no exception (I home to blog one today.) Go you on making swim nappies and a rash top – such a great idea. Where do you get your fabric for that? 🙂

I have this one but it might be too big for a rashie but you could go down a size?

My Miss 4 is wearing one in this blog post – at the bottom of the page

Oh I’d also like to know where you got the pattern for swim diapers, and what material would you use for that? I am moving at a snail speed for the KCW as well.. so I might start counting “thinking about sewing for kids” as part of my hour heheh

I hope the desire to cuddle lasts. It’s kinda priceless… They are beautiful together. 🙂

Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melb Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melbourne garden party was the Charlie Caftan by @closetcorepatterns. I shortened it at the shoulders by an inch and think I shortened it at the bottom too. I altered the pockets so they attach into the waist panel, because I hate when in-seam pockets flap about and pull at the side seams. The side slits are a double turn narrow hem as the overlock and turn as suggested in the pattern looked puckered. The fabric is a Cotton + Steel rayon by Masaru Suzuki, which is a dream to sew with. I've made another dress in the red colour way.

Give them a minute to cool if you can lest you burn your mouth.

A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've added a hair hole, since why don't all hats have that?! Also added some garden wire to the brim. Instead of finishing the brim edge with bias, I did the usual RST stitch, fold and top stitch. That means the brim is a little shorter than the pattern. I wanted to keep the hat lightweight, so it's unlined and has only the two layers of canvas fabric for the brim. The cotton canvas is a vintage fabric from my stash, which originally cost 15 shillings and 9 pence (I think) per yard.
