Introducing, the Mega Bib!

September 22, 2011 by Abby 38 Comments

Roman has a heap of bibs, but most of them are so small, they only cover his chest, even though most of his food ends up in his lap. I have seen the idea of these snap up bibs before, and even have one from Loopy Loos, but decided to come up with my own design. Introducing, the mega bib! This bib is huge! It's long and wide and has snaps to transform it into a pelican pocket ...

Polar fleece baby booties

September 20, 2011 by Abby 21 Comments

I have a lot of trouble getting socks or shoes to stay on Roman's feet. His legs are always moving and his shoes get kicked off in the process. I have a knitted bootie pattern that is pretty good, but knitting can be pretty time consuming, even for little booties. I came across this pattern for some sewn polar fleece baby booties, so I thought I'd give them a go. They ...

September 17, 2011 by Abby 1 Comment

In Australia, they're called Rice Bubbles, but to the rest of the world they're Rice Krispies. Either way, these hold a great deal of nostalgia for me. You can leave out the peanut butter and the nuts if they tend you make you swell up and itch ;)Nutty Rice Krispie Treats makes 24 good size pieces100g butter, chopped200g ...

Rocky Road Ice Cream

September 11, 2011 by Abby 1 Comment

The hubby was really sweet and let me have the whole day to myself yesterday. I went and had a facial, walked through some boutique stores that I dare not enter with a pram and went to a girlfriend's place for dinner. To say thank you, I made my lovely hubby a batch of Rocky Road Ice Cream. He loves everything in it, so I knew it would be a hit.If you're not into making ...

Prettier than your average Whiteboard

September 6, 2011 by Abby 4 Comments

Hi my name is Abby and I'm a listoholic. I love making a list. On a post it, on the computer, in my phone, in my head, on the backs of old envelopes... and don't get me started on Excel spreadsheets. It makes me feel like I'm sorting things out, even before I get started on actually doing anything on the list.I've been wanting a whiteboard for ages, but they're a bit ...

Things for Mums – Lace Tuxedo Tank

September 1, 2011 by Abby 2 Comments

This top had a grease stain on it that I couldn't get rid of, so rather than throwing it away, I thought I'd pretty it up and hide the mark at the same time. I've been wanting to do something like this for ages and I'm really happy with how it turned out.I started by hand basting a line down the middle in contrasting thread. Then I worked from the centre out sewing on lengths ...

Ahhhh….

August 26, 2011 by Abby Leave a Comment

It's nice to finally have our spare room back again. It's one more thing that's nice and orderly again in my life. Now that Roman is in his cot, we are no longer using the spare bed. We used to take shifts getting some sleep in there, while the other one would sleep in the bed with Roman. I get a nice sense of calm walking past the room now that it is back to how it should ...

Satay Turkey Burgers

August 18, 2011 by Abby Leave a Comment

I was recently asked to test out some turkey mince and make some burgers with it. I was sent a voucher to use and after picking up my pack of Ingham turkey mince I started to brain storm. We were having some friends around for a BBQ and I wanted to come up with something different and decided on satay burgers with satay mayonnaise. These turned out really great and were ...

August 17, 2011 by Abby 1 Comment

I can happily report that at this moment,  Roman is asleep in his cot, for the first time ever!We just got home today from 4 nights at Sleep School. I suppose I should say Mother Baby Unit, as they do a lot more than just sleep issues, but we were there for sleep. It was nothing short of amazing! The transformation is unbelievable! We arrived at North Park on Saturday ...

Quick and satisfying project today making a brush Quick and satisfying project today making a brush roll for my art supplies. Vintage canvas from the stash (which I think is from a bougie Italian designer). Matching bag to come. Then I can grab and go for my next en plein air session.
I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate eac I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate each season and observe the cyclical nature of growth and of life. Through tending a garden we learn to embrace imperfection and patience. That the reason for everything is the journey not the destination.
My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Part My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Party was the Lucca Dress from @schultzapparel. I adore the 18th Century vibe! After toiling my measured size, I ended up going down 2 sizes and after a few minor tweaks I make to most patterns (shorten and move forward the shoulder and realign the side seams) it was good to go. I was planning to finish the front with eyelets but ended up hand sewing in hook and eye tape. I love the clean look! When trying it on I wanted a little more oomph in the hips so I added some tulle hip pads to the sides. I added in seam pockets too because...pockets! The fabric is from deep stash and originally purchased at the Philips Shirt Factory sale in the city maybe 10 years ago?! It was a dream to sew with! I used about 5m because it was only 90cm wide. I'm loving the result and hopefully the weather plays nice and I get another chance to wear it before it turns cold. The dipped waist makes it really comfortable to wear with room for a big lunch! #schlucca #sewmelbourne #sewmelbournegp #imakemyownclothes
My grandma always grew borage and would put it in My grandma always grew borage and would put it in salads. I didn't know anyone else who made salad with flowers in it (it was the 80s) and I thought she was a magical witch. I'm so excited to finally grow it in my own garden! When buying veggie seeds I found borage on @theseedcollection so couldn't help myself. Witches unite! ✨🌱
Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to front garden a bit easier. Used scraps of timber from the old retaining wall. He wasn't a fan of the circular saw but loved doing the drilling and screwing. Worked out just as I hoped! I don't have a builders square, but turns out a quilting ruler makes an excellent substitute.
