Get Organised – Laundry Storage and Dusting mittens

October 24, 2011 by Abby 1 Comment

Being renters, we can't put any shelves up and the laundry at out house is a bit lacking in storage. I came across these little baskets at the local discount store and they are perfect! They have 2 suction cups on the back, so they stick to the tiles, and I can take them with me when we move out. The one on the left has my delicates bags in it and the one on the right is ...

Pumpkin and Poppy Seed Mini Muffins

October 20, 2011 by Abby 6 Comments

I made these up using the Mini Savoury Muffins base and added some grated pumpkin and sprinkled the tops with poppy seeds. I left the cheese out  from the original recipe because I didn't have any. Like everything, Roman loves them. Pumpkin and Poppy Seed Mini Muffins makes 24 2 cups (300g) plain flour 1 tbsp baking powder 2 eggs 1/4 cup olive oil 1/2 cup milk 2 ...

Pimp my Ergo – Ergo Carrier Teething Pads Tutorial

October 17, 2011 by Abby 23 Comments

I love the Ergo baby carrier. It is definitely the most comfortable way to carry a baby around for any period of time. Roman loves it too, mostly to eat! He loves to chew, dribble and drool all over the straps. It can be a bit of a pain to wash, so I thought I'd make up these teething pads as they're much easier to wash than the whole carrier. You want to use a fairly ...

Make your own: Home-made Sprinkles

October 14, 2011 by Abby 25 Comments

This is the ultimate in DIY! Have you ever looked at the ingredients on a packet of sprinkles? Not counting the colouring, there are 6 ingredients! That seems like a lot to me for some hard sugar. I came across this recipe from BraveTart and just had to give it a go. The sprinkles were really easy to make and only use 3 ingredients, 5 if you count the colour and flavouring. I ...

Pimp my Pram – Window Shade for M&P Sola Pram

October 12, 2011 by Abby 1 Comment

I love my Sola pram! It's cute, compact, light, easy to use, is suitable from birth and has lasted well with heavy daily use (it's also my shopping trolley) even surviving the London snow*. The only thing I wish it has was a shade over the window. When Roman is trying to take a nap, the sun is usually peeking in through the window and I have to cover the pram in ...

Apple and Blueberry Muffins

October 9, 2011 by Abby 2 Comments

I like muffins that aren't too sweet...that's what cupcakes are for. That way, you can have them for breakfast or afternoon tea without feeling like you've indulged too much. I only managed to get 11 muffins out of the recipe, but I think my cupcake cases are bigger than the average. Apple and Blueberry Muffins makes 12240g plain flour3 tsp baking powder1/3 cup caster ...

Yoghurt Snack Pancakes

October 6, 2011 by Abby 16 Comments

Roman decided he doesn't like yoghurt anymore, just as I bought a new tub, so I made up some little pancakes and snuck the yogurt in. These are a great snack for babies and easy to freeze and then whip out when needed. Yoghurt Snack Pancakesmakes about 24*1 cup (150g) plain flour2 tsp baking powder1 tbsp sugar (optional - I didn't add this)1 cup yoghurt (I used greek ...

Bunny Softie

October 4, 2011 by Abby 2 Comments

I made this for Roman just before he was born. He's not big on soft toys, but I still think it's pretty cute. I've been doing my best to try and get him attached to it, but I just don't think he's a soft toy kinda guy. He's not even 1 and he's already such a boy! I used the Martha Stewart pattern below for the ears, and the Revoluzzza pattern for the body, arms and legs. I ...

Raspberry Vodka

October 2, 2011 by Abby 2 Comments

Raspberry VodkaMakes 1 litre450g raspberries (3 punnets)1L vodkasugar, to tasteI always use Smirnoff, as I think it's a good quality vodka and reasonably priced. You could use a cheap vodka, but if you're going to the trouble of making this, then why not use something you're happy to drink neat?I have a 2L glass preserving jar that I use for this, but any jar that will fit ...

1 month to go!

September 29, 2011 by Abby 3 Comments

In less than a month, Roman will be turning 1! I can't believe how quickly the year has gone by, even with more sleepless nights than I thought possible. I embellished this little tshirt for him to wear on his birthday. I printed out the number and then cut it out of the paper to make a stencil. I used the stencil BACKWARDS to trace the 1 onto the paper side of some ...

Free Knitting Pattern: Knitted Baby Uggs

September 27, 2011 by Abby 192 Comments

These Knitted Baby Uggs are a lovely modern take on the traditional baby bootee. I've made quite a few pairs of these for Roman, some in cotton, some in wool. I am a slow knitter and I can whip a pair of these up in a few hours. These cute baby uggs are a quick project to knit. You will love this free knitting pattern! The booties are knit in one piece, so there's hardly any ...

Warm Buttered Apple

September 25, 2011 by Abby Leave a Comment

This is a quick and delicious little pudding, perfect for your baby. I suggest that as an adult, you do not try it yourself. Once you have tasted this, it will be hard not to give in and make this all the time. It is far too tasty and much to quick to whip up...a dangerous combination!  Warm Buttered Apple 1 sweet apple - I have used Fuji and Eve varieties knob of ...

Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melb Secret pyjamas! My dress for this year's @sew_melbourne garden party was the Charlie Caftan by @closetcorepatterns. I shortened it at the shoulders by an inch and think I shortened it at the bottom too. I altered the pockets so they attach into the waist panel, because I hate when in-seam pockets flap about and pull at the side seams. The side slits are a double turn narrow hem as the overlock and turn as suggested in the pattern looked puckered. The fabric is a Cotton + Steel rayon by Masaru Suzuki, which is a dream to sew with. I've made another dress in the red colour way.
Beans from the garden and my favourite way to eat Beans from the garden and my favourite way to eat them... Stir fry in hot oil (coconut is delish but whatever you have is fine) until a bit burnt (about 5 mins). Chuck in a few squirts of fish sauce for the last 5 secs and toss through.
Give them a minute to cool if you can lest you burn your mouth.

A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've A new hat! I used the free #closetcoresunhat. I've added a hair hole, since why don't all hats have that?! Also added some garden wire to the brim. Instead of finishing the brim edge with bias, I did the usual RST stitch, fold and top stitch. That means the brim is a little shorter than the pattern. I wanted to keep the hat lightweight, so it's unlined and has only the two layers of canvas fabric for the brim. The cotton canvas is a vintage fabric from my stash, which originally cost 15 shillings and 9 pence (I think) per yard.
