Tasty Treats for Furry Friends – Dog Biscuit Recipe

December 11, 2011 by Abby 31 Comments

There are a few dogs in our extended family, and I always like to give them something for Christmas too. That way, I don't feel so bad when they're begging for the meat off my plate... I'm definitely not going to share that! This dog biscuit recipe is flavoured with peanut butter and they smell pretty good when they're cooking. Last time I baked these at my Mother in law's, ...

Salt Dough Decorations

December 9, 2011 by Abby 13 Comments

Making decorations with salt dough is a fun way to get the kids involved in the Christmas festivities. If your kids are too young to make decorations themselves, like Roman is, then you can press their hands or feet into the dough and cut them out. These make good keepsakes or gifts to give to the grandparents. This recipe made enough for me to make 8 footprint ornaments and a ...

Boil and Bake Fruit Cake

December 7, 2011 by Abby 8 Comments

On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...four colly birds! Did you know it was 'colly' birds? I always thought it was 'calling' birds. Apparently, the word 'colly' means 'black as coal' and colly birds are actually blackbirds. Learn something new hey... Anyway, today's post has nothing to do with birds and everything to do with cake...one of my favourite ...

Tefal Fresh Express Review

November 29, 2011 by Abby 2 Comments

I've had a few chances to play with the Tefal Fresh Express now, so I feel qualified to put up a review on it. I've taken a few videos so you can see it in action. I was too embarrassed to talk on it (who doesn't hate the sound of their own voice), but you get the idea. I had a few people around for some chicken fajitas so this was the perfect chance to cut up some different ...

Zucchini Slice

November 27, 2011 by Abby 6 Comments

Would you believe I've never actually made Zucchini Slice before? As a kid, it was not something my Mum ever made, so it's not something that comes to mind. I think I've been missing out though, as this was one of the easiest things to make and was super tasty. Roman loves it too. I left out the cheese as hubby doesn't eat it (I swear it's his only flaw) and it was still very ...

Cutlery Storage Roll – Tutorial

November 22, 2011 by Abby 18 Comments

Do you have one of those 'good' cutlery sets? You know the ones, they get pulled out for Christmas and then for the rest of the year, take up a huge amount of space in an awkwardly large box.Well, I decided to store them in a roll, like chefs knives. They take up a lot less space and still stay nice and shiny. You can see below, that they use about 1/4 of the space of the box. ...

Cocktail Hour – The Bee’s Knees

November 19, 2011 by Abby 1 Comment

This drink is great, as long as you like gin and honey. I therefore, love it. With the combination of lemon and honey, I was a bit worried it would taste like a cough lolly, but the complex flavour of the gin stops that. The lemon prevents it being too sweet, but the flavour of the honey really comes through. A surprisingly grown up drink. The Honey Syrup keeps indefinitely ...

Quick and satisfying project today making a brush Quick and satisfying project today making a brush roll for my art supplies. Vintage canvas from the stash (which I think is from a bougie Italian designer). Matching bag to come. Then I can grab and go for my next en plein air session.
I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate eac I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate each season and observe the cyclical nature of growth and of life. Through tending a garden we learn to embrace imperfection and patience. That the reason for everything is the journey not the destination.
My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Part My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Party was the Lucca Dress from @schultzapparel. I adore the 18th Century vibe! After toiling my measured size, I ended up going down 2 sizes and after a few minor tweaks I make to most patterns (shorten and move forward the shoulder and realign the side seams) it was good to go. I was planning to finish the front with eyelets but ended up hand sewing in hook and eye tape. I love the clean look! When trying it on I wanted a little more oomph in the hips so I added some tulle hip pads to the sides. I added in seam pockets too because...pockets! The fabric is from deep stash and originally purchased at the Philips Shirt Factory sale in the city maybe 10 years ago?! It was a dream to sew with! I used about 5m because it was only 90cm wide. I'm loving the result and hopefully the weather plays nice and I get another chance to wear it before it turns cold. The dipped waist makes it really comfortable to wear with room for a big lunch! #schlucca #sewmelbourne #sewmelbournegp #imakemyownclothes
My grandma always grew borage and would put it in My grandma always grew borage and would put it in salads. I didn't know anyone else who made salad with flowers in it (it was the 80s) and I thought she was a magical witch. I'm so excited to finally grow it in my own garden! When buying veggie seeds I found borage on @theseedcollection so couldn't help myself. Witches unite! ✨🌱
Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to front garden a bit easier. Used scraps of timber from the old retaining wall. He wasn't a fan of the circular saw but loved doing the drilling and screwing. Worked out just as I hoped! I don't have a builders square, but turns out a quilting ruler makes an excellent substitute.
