Mini Baked Cinnamon Donuts

April 18, 2017 by Abby 2 Comments

I made these baked cinnamon donuts for our family lunch on Easter Sunday. I baked some boozy rum and raisin brownies first, but thought I should make something else that was kid friendly. I had all the ingredients for these on hand so whipped them up on Sunday morning. These turned out to be quite a hit and went like hotcakes! I bought my mini donut tin when we were on ...

Baked Sage and Onion Stuffing Meatballs

December 29, 2016 by Abby 1 Comment

I don't typically have much luck taking pictures of brown food. I think it's just a hard food group to take sexy photos of. But take my word for it that these Baked Sage and Onion Stuffing Meatballs are super tasty! They taste just like Christmas! This recipe is based on this one here, but I have made quite a few tweaks to it. The main one being that I've increased the ...

Mini Chocolate Cupcakes

October 18, 2016 by Abby Leave a Comment

I love mini cupcakes. They are the perfect size for kids and when I eat them it seems like it's fine to eat 3 or so because they are so small. This is my go to recipe for mini chocolate cupcakes. It's easy and reliable and they always turn out great. I love melt and mix recipes because they can be made without any planning...no need to have the butter soft. I have also made ...

Vegan Chocolate Mousse

February 5, 2016 by Abby 7 Comments

Have you heard about aquafaba? It's the new craze sweeping the vegan cooking world. It can be used to replace the eggwhites in a lot of recipes. And you'll never guess what it is. The juice from a can of chickpeas!! What?! That's right...chickpea juice! In fact, you can use the liquid from any cooked legumes. You can read all about aquafaba here. My friend told me about this ...

How to Host a Stress Free Birthday Brunch

July 15, 2015 by Abby 2 Comments

Ted turned 2 recently and we had a bit of a party. Since having kids, the thought of parties instantly makes my blood pressure go up. So many people! So much food! And drinks! And noise! Argh!!! Anyway, I thought it was time to put my endless list making to good use and organise a stress free birthday party. How do you do that you say? Well, the key was to make sure everything ...

Lemon Cheesecake

Lemon Cheesecake

August 28, 2014 by Abby 18 Comments

I love cheesecake and even the hubby, who doesn't eat cheese, loves cheescake! I've never been brave enough to try making a baked cheesecake so I stick to chilled cheesecakes. This one is pretty classic and I love the jelly layer on top. You can leave it off if you can't find lemon jelly, though I also think it would be nice with passionfruit jelly. I used an adjustable cake ...

Last Minute Sweet Treat for Valentine’s Day

February 14, 2014 by Abby 8 Comments

I must admit, we don't go to much trouble for Valentine's Day. It's so commercialised here in Australia that I'm a bit put off the whole idea of 'we are telling you to be romantic today so go and buy some flowers or chocolates!' BUT...I do love any excuse to have something sweet and this little treat can be whipped up in a minute! It is perfect with berries, but also yum ...

Gluten Free – Savoury Flapjacks

February 5, 2014 by Abby 13 Comments

These are a great kid snack to have on standby. They require just a few ingredients and can be made in a big batch and stored in the freezer. They aren't too messy to eat so are great for trips out with toddlers and are also good for after school snacks. You can use any veggies you have on hand and your favourite kind of cheese. Flapjacks are also perfect if you're looking for ...

Almond, Rose and Cardamom Cordial

January 18, 2014 by Abby 18 Comments

If you know anyone in the Southern States of Australia, then you'll know it's been crazy hot here! We've had temperatures over 40°C (105°F) every day this week!! But rather than complain about how hot it is, I thought I'd make up some fancy cordial to enjoy. The drink is a lovely milky white colour and is nice and refreshing. This syrup is delicious topped with sparkling or ...

Edible Gifts for Men: Fruit Cake

November 9, 2013 by Abby 2 Comments

Adding to my Edible Gift Ideas for Men round up, here is my Fruit Cake recipe. I don't think you can go wrong with Fruit Cake as a gift. I love it, hubby loves it and both our Fathers love it! I gave one to my Dad for Father's Day. My cousin Ross, swears that the best accompaniment is a piece of cheddar cheese...I've tried it out and it's a pretty good combo! This recipe is ...

Lamb and Apricot Tagine

September 9, 2013 by Abby 2 Comments

I've made this a few times lately and I'm totally in love with it. This tagine is one of those lovely 'slow dishes' that's perfect for a chilly night. It bubbles away in the kitchen all afternoon so that when it gets to dinner time, all that needs to be done is to make the couscous, which is about one of the easiest things to do in the kitchen. I've adapted this from the recipe ...

Today I'm joining in the fun on the Spring Has Sprung blog tour, which is being hosted by the lovely Cass from Cass Can Sew and Jane from Lil Pip. Quick and satisfying project today making a brush Quick and satisfying project today making a brush roll for my art supplies. Vintage canvas from the stash (which I think is from a bougie Italian designer). Matching bag to come. Then I can grab and go for my next en plein air session.
I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate eac I love how gardening teaches you to appreciate each season and observe the cyclical nature of growth and of life. Through tending a garden we learn to embrace imperfection and patience. That the reason for everything is the journey not the destination.
My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Part My dress for this years @sew_melbourne Garden Party was the Lucca Dress from @schultzapparel. I adore the 18th Century vibe! After toiling my measured size, I ended up going down 2 sizes and after a few minor tweaks I make to most patterns (shorten and move forward the shoulder and realign the side seams) it was good to go. I was planning to finish the front with eyelets but ended up hand sewing in hook and eye tape. I love the clean look! When trying it on I wanted a little more oomph in the hips so I added some tulle hip pads to the sides. I added in seam pockets too because...pockets! The fabric is from deep stash and originally purchased at the Philips Shirt Factory sale in the city maybe 10 years ago?! It was a dream to sew with! I used about 5m because it was only 90cm wide. I'm loving the result and hopefully the weather plays nice and I get another chance to wear it before it turns cold. The dipped waist makes it really comfortable to wear with room for a big lunch! #schlucca #sewmelbourne #sewmelbournegp #imakemyownclothes
My grandma always grew borage and would put it in My grandma always grew borage and would put it in salads. I didn't know anyone else who made salad with flowers in it (it was the 80s) and I thought she was a magical witch. I'm so excited to finally grow it in my own garden! When buying veggie seeds I found borage on @theseedcollection so couldn't help myself. Witches unite! ✨🌱
Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to Today Ted and I built a step to make getting up to front garden a bit easier. Used scraps of timber from the old retaining wall. He wasn't a fan of the circular saw but loved doing the drilling and screwing. Worked out just as I hoped! I don't have a builders square, but turns out a quilting ruler makes an excellent substitute.
